Application areas
PADI SMARTi, the IoT (Internet of Things) solution that is powerful and easy to use for monitoring your systems via the WEB, wherever you are; in fact, the PADI SMARTi telecontrol unit has the iCare ENVIRONMENT IoT software platform built in and can be used in many contexts to remotely manage, for example:
- photovoltaic, wind, and HVAC/hydronic systems
- air-conditioning systems
- home, office, and hotel building-automation systems
- environmental monitoring systems (temperature, pressure, humidity, and pollution)
- temperature control of cold rooms for the agri-food and pharmaceutical sectors
- smart irrigation systems for greenhouses and farmland
- tanks, wells, and aqueducts
- the transit gate barriers of ZTL (restricted-traffic) areas and public lighting
- the status of signal contacts and/or devices over geographic distance, including bidirectional control
- industrial machinery of both old and new generations, making them compliant with Industry 4.0 management and control technologies
The above are just a few examples where the unit’s advanced features immediately apply; but how does it all work?
Simple: PADI SMARTi lets you create a single centralized telecontrol environment, managed via the WEB from any tablet, smartphone, SMART TV, PC, or Mac, and it can be used on its own or connected over an IP network to one or more PADI I/O interfaces (on the same network or distributed over the Internet) to handle additional sensors and actuators.

Immediate, clear, and functional to use

- the status of sensors and actuators, both analog and digital;
- the status of any type of system.
So you can finally manage, simply and intuitively, many PADI boards and Modbus TCP devices connected to your LAN in a true graphical SCADA supervision system accessible from any WEB browser on PC and Mac, including smartphones and tablets, without installing any additional software.

Moreover, PADI SMARTi lets you easily create and customize the synoptic of the telecontrolled system, without knowing any programming language.

You can create endless automatic logics that switch one or more relays simultaneously when the conditions you programmed occur.

No CLOUD! The software, data, and everything you need are already inside your PADI SMARTi IoT device!

- work correctly even without a stable Internet connection; this means the data, configurations, and information about the work performed by the PADI SMARTi IoT device are not at risk of loss in case of malfunctions or Internet outages, as unfortunately happens more often lately due to massive network and server attacks by hackers;
- be faster and more responsive than other Cloud-based IoT solutions, because all data, configurations, and information are stored locally on the PADI SMARTi IoT device, avoiding delays caused by sending and receiving data over the Internet;
- be more secure since the data collected from sensors remain stored locally on the user’s PADI SMARTi IoT device; they neither transit on the Internet nor reside with external providers or data centers, so they never leave the telecontrolled site—crucial for pharma, defense, and utility sectors;
- be more cost-effective than Cloud-based IoT systems, as there is no need to pay a monthly or annual subscription to access the device software to manage all connected sensors and systems or to view/print all sensor data.
Rest easy: PADI SMARTi handles automatic actions when critical events occur!

PADI SMARTi not only lets you customize the names of all digital/analog inputs and relay outputs for connected sensors and actuators, but also lets you manage automatic behaviors on relays, or operator alerts via email or SMS in case of:

- a change in one or more states of digital inputs
- a change in one or more values of analog inputs
- one or more scheduled calendar events

Today PADI SMARTi is even smarter!

Thanks to advanced mathematical functions, PADI SMARTi lets you create virtual ports obtained from logical and mathematical calculations using user-customizable formulas. The variables fed into the formula can be constants, values from physical analog ports connected to sensors, and boolean values from digital ports. This way, for each virtual port created, the user can define, simply and intuitively, mathematical expressions such as:
- cos(X1)+sin(X2)*(X1-X2)+100
- X1<X2
where X1 and X2 are the variable values coming from the sensors.
Thanks to the high computing power of the PADI SMARTi IoT unit, you can use an unlimited number of variables in formulas; the user can simply and intuitively map each variable in the formula to the instantaneous value measured by any real sensor connected to the PADI SMARTi system.
And that’s not all! You can enable data-logging and also associate alarm states on user-created virtual ports, just as you already can on ports connected to real sensors.
PADI SMARTi can also be managed by other software

Supervising and managing all Modbus devices via the WEB is no longer a problem!
PADI SMARTi supports, in master mode, one or multiple devices compatible with the Modbus TCP protocol.
Thanks to Modbus protocol support, it is possible to control one or more functions of advanced devices from any manufacturer such as fire alarm panels, intrusion systems, field RTU I/O, photovoltaic inverters, and HVAC systems.
You can finally give new life to all your Modbus devices by quickly and easily creating one or more SCADA synoptics for telecontrol accessible via WEB from any browser for PC, Mac, smartphone, and tablet of the latest generation, and today even from SMART TVs.
In addition, users can program operator alerts and/or automatic behaviors on all Modbus devices managed by the PADI SMARTi unit.
Data collection and remote control for Industry 4.0 and Agriculture 4.0
The term Industry 4.0 refers to the “fourth industrial revolution,” which is based on the adoption of certain enabling technologies that improve working conditions, create new business models, and increase production quality; among these enabling technologies is the Industrial Internet of Things, i.e., the “IP-network telecontrol” of industrial instruments or machinery.
Agriculture 4.0 is a term
used to describe targeted, efficient interventions in agriculture starting from data such as the physical and biochemical characteristics of the soil and surrounding environment. In practice, it is the set of tools and strategies that allow farms to use advanced technologies synergistically and interconnectedly—such as “IP-network telecontrol” of sensors and actuators —to make production more efficient and sustainable and to precisely calculate and deliver, for example, the water requirements of a given crop, avoiding waste of resources.
IP-network telecontrol refers to a mix of services and technologies that enable remote control for monitoring or regulating parameters of industrial instruments and machines, even when geographically distant from each other and from the user, leveraging today’s fast and efficient network interconnection technologies such as local networks and the Internet, so you can promptly respond to faults or inefficiencies, delivering significant economic and operational benefits for your production activity.
In this field, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) (such as the PADI I/O board) and controllers with PLC-like logic functions (such as the PADI SMARTi unit) play a fundamental role.
These are devices which, leveraging modern web-based communication technologies and sensor networks, allow you to build SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and DCS (Distributed Control System) solutions that are essential for all industrial IoT applications, both in Industry 4.0 and Agriculture 4.0.
Such applications are also fiscally incentivized by the Budget Law(and subsequent amendments), which includes industrial IP-network monitoring and telecontrol systems among the assets eligible for hyper- and super-depreciation.
